Since 1938, 4 generations of the Xavier Milhade family have continued the tradition of vine cultivation and the production of red, white, and rosé wines at Château Recougne. The Carmenère grape variety was abandoned in Bordeaux at the end of the 19th century after the phylloxera crisis and was replaced by promising yields of Merlot and Cabernet. However, this variety has its advantages: it produces wines with low alcohol content (which is very interesting in hot years) and with a very spicy aroma. Château Recougne is currently one of the few that produces wine dedicated to this grape variety, to which a low percentage of Merlot is added.
